Bucephalus Bikes is a local, family owned bicycle shop dedicated to the idea that it is great to get around on a bicycle.
Located in Evanston since its opening in 2009, we offer outstanding service and support the cycling needs of everyone.
Bucephalus Bikes’ full service shop provides repairs, tune-ups, overhauls, and new-builds. We specialize in repairing bikes of every vintage and condition.
If you need a tune-up or an overhaul, give us the opportunity to pay careful attention to you and your bicycle. Our work is thorough and our service is friendly and experienced. You will be surprised to see how good your bicycle will look and feel.

Today was our first visit to Bucephalus Bikes. The owners were so helpful and understood my concerns with finding the right bike for my little boy who has Down Syndrome. It was an amazing experience. I am so appreciative!!!!! We found a bike that is perfect for him, and Alex and Cecilia helped him get used to it and made so many patient adjustments to make him comfortable and confident on his new bike.

To this one of the best hidden gem bike shops in the Chicagoland area in my opinion. I have brought in three bikes for repair tune ups and have always been very happy with my bikes afterwards. This is the kind of bike store that you could bring in a 20,30,40 year old bike, and they would find a way to get it back to you in perfect riding condition. It is a family run store and I think they are lovely. The shop is nestled in a residential area in Evanston and has an eclectic feel to it. Prices are fare and competitive to just about any other bike store. Turn around time has never really been a problem for me either, but I have a few bikes so I am never in a hurry to get my bike back. The one thing that I really like about the this place is I that they not only clean it really well, but it looks like the bike is polished and waxed. Can I also mention they are open on Sunday.

Like buying a bike from family. Alex and Cecelia are warm and welcoming store owners. They are passionate about bikes. We received so much generous assistance and patience with our decision-making. Alex can explain the purpose for everything on a bike and precisely how it is made. Both provided good advice. Since, in our eagerness, we rode it home in the rain from the shop several days ago, this bike has now covered all the streets of our town. Great customer service, great price, great people. Bucephalus stands apart from the crowd on two counts. One is the quality of their work. I don't own expensive bikes, but I ride everywhere, everyday, so good maintenance counts. Alex and his team treat my bikes -- and me -- with great respect. Their work is the best I've found, and (this is my second point) their regard for "unracers" like me is refreshing. No condescension, just simple respect for all who ride or want to.

Alex and crew are phenomenal! They took my old Stumpjumper mountain bike and lovingly tuned it up to perfection! They specialize in older/vintage bikes, so if you have something sitting around and you want to get riding, this is the shop to go to. Because they deal with older bikes and rebuilds, there is not likely a bike they can't handle.....and the turn around time was super fast (despite a busy bike repair time of the year). After looking at several shops, I drove from Schaumburg to get the bike to Alex, and I am glad I did!

I was on a long ride and got a flat coming into Evanston. I walked a mile to Bucephalus (the only open store on Sunday during covid) - and was told by the person working they were just too busy to help. She said they would hold my bike until the end of the day and then fix all the flats. Well, I couldn't wait 6 hours for such a simple procedure. I am very fortunate I was able to call my partner to drive from Chicago to pick me up (an hour drive, during which I waited in the park across from the bike shop). When I got home I walked over to the shop on my street. The flat was fixed in 15 minites, (plus a quick addition to the frame). I understand everyone is stressed, and I'm sure the shop was indeed busy. But knowing this was a 15 minute fix that they just chose not to inconvenience themselves with - and 10 miles from home no less, is incredibly disappointing. I'll be sending people elsewhere.
